Production companies

Production companies are often divided into two sections: major production companies and independent production companies.

Examples of major production companies include Warner Bros. Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures.

Examples of independent production companies include Twisted Pictures, Glass Eye Pix, Campus Studios and Grassroots Films.

Production companies are responsible for funding films and productions. They can do this by fundraising or through a parent company, partner or private investor. Productions handle budgeting, scheduling, scripting, casting, resources, staff, distribution, marketing and the production itself.

Walt Disney Pictures

Walt Disney Pictures is a major film studio formed in 1923 (as Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio) by Walt Disney and Roy E. Disney. It's considered as one of Hollywood's 'big six' - the current major studios.

Major companies such as Walt Disney Pictures tend to have their own distribution companies. For example, Walt Disney Pictures has Buena Vista Distribution.

Glass Eye Pix

Glass Eye Pix is an independent film studio formed in 1985 and based in New York City, mainly known for it's horror films (although it has produced films outside of the horror genre). Their low-budget horror banner is called Scareflix, and was made with the aim of producing budgeted independent horror films by new directors.
