Prop planning

Friday, December 04, 2015

In our group we talked about the props we would need for our opening. Since our opening was quite simple and character-based, there aren't many props needed. These are our initial ideas:

After this, I had a good think and refined the prop list:

  • A knife - I thought it would be a good weapon to use as it is personal, and also accessible. A standard kitchen knife would do. This prop would be used in the opening dream sequence, but only briefly.
  • The mask - I thought I'd list this, even though it is considered as a part of the costume, as it is used as a prop rather than worn. The plan is to show the antagonists point of view, looking down at the mask in his hands.
  • Paperwork - As the plan is to have Alistair waking up among paperwork, we're going to need some. Whilst this can be considered part of the setting, I have listed it under props as it is something interactive.
  • A mug - Alistair's going to need a mug for when he gets in to work. We discussed that this should be something reflective of his introverted personality, such as a simple design saying "I'm busy" or "don't talk to me". I would purchase a custom mug from Zazzle (or an equivalent website) for this.

Update 1

Upon discussion and creation of our storyboard, we ditched the mug idea as it would elongate the intro unnecessarily. We'll now be adding a briefcase, which Alistair will be taking to work.
The mask has been ordered.

Update 2

We have received the tie and the mask and have begun filming. Instead of using an actual briefcase, we have used a laptop bag.
